Thank you!

I Just wanted to write a quick note to say thank you to all of you for coming to the parent interviews. I love and value all of your support that you have given myself and your child throughout the term. I can see such vast improvements since the beginning of the year and I love that your children are so excited about their learning!

Just a quick note to let you know that I will not be here this Monday coming as I will be attending my grandmother's funeral. Ms Kirsty Darcy will be coming in for the day who the children all love.

Thank you again for all of your support!

No Year 1 mini assembly tomorrow

Dear Parents,

It became clear to me this morning that on the OLC website it stated that there was a Year One Mini assembly. This was indeed a misprint (as I almost had a heart attack) but there will be a Year One Prayer Assembly in Week 7 (12th of June). So I'm giving you all 6 weeks notice :)

Another note about parent interviews, it is not an expectation that your child be present at the interview. As we only have 10 minutes it will be a quick overview of how your child is progressing so no need to bring them along. Of course if your interview is close to when school finishes, I am happy to have them in class playing a game if need be.

If there are any issues or concerns please email me.

Thank you

Learning about skip counting in Maths

This week during Maths, we have been exploring the skill of skip counting. Today we started skip counting by 10’s and we had a wonderful time discovering that if we times a number by 10, all we needed to do was add a zero! (eg. 6 x 10 = 60). We then sang some songs about counting in 10’s and then we felt confident enough to have a go at ordering numbers by 10.up to 100! We got so good at doing this that we started from any point and was able to count up to 100 by 10’s.

If you would like to do some practise at home, I have uploaded a google doc with flash cards of 2’s, 5’s and 10’s that you can cut out and order at home. This is a great way for your child to consolidate some of the Maths we have been doing in class and relates directly to the to the Year One Western Australian Curriculum outcome within the Number and Algebra strand:

Develop confidence with number sequences to and from 100 by ones from any starting point. Skip count by twos, fives and tens starting from zero(ACMNA012)

I have also included the song we have sung in class if you would like to be involved in the singing side of things (definitely not my forte!).

Thank you to all those who have put their names down for parent interviews, If you haven’t or can’t make it in please email me.

Thank you for your ongoing support

Welcome back to Term 2!

I hope you have all had a fantastic holiday and are ready to get back to school!
We have a very exciting term ahead of us and I can’t wait to see your beautiful children.

Parent interviews will commence next week and I will be updating the blog with more information. There will be a time slot sheet for interviews outside the classroom by the end of the week.  Please make sure you fill in your name so I can discuss with you how your child has been travelling so far this semester.

For Mother’s Day this year we are making something very special and require glass jars between 500ml – 750ml. These can be old pasta, mason, sauce or marinade jars but I would just ask that they come to school de labeled and washed.

I hope the writing packs were of use over the holidays and I can’t wait to hear all the adventures and great things the children would have been up to during their time off.

Just a reminder that it is Sports Uniform tomorrow and I look forward to seeing you all then!

Raz Kids Reading Program

Well, I think there are some overly excited children ready to start their super cool reading program that the big kids do...aka Raz Kids!

I introduced the children to Raz Kids today and the response was very exciting! I am going to show you step by step, how to log on and keep an eye on your children's reading.

Students can read, listen to, and even self-record reading these books available through the Raz Kids program. They can also take reading-comprehension quizzes along the way show the progress that they are making.

The Raz kids program can be downloaded onto the iPad or android or alternatively accessed through the Internet via:

www.raz-kids.com

When the website is opened, it will ask you for the teacher name and the name they enter is
mprowse

Once in this screen, children must look for their name which is their first name and the first letter of their last name eg. Angusc

The children will most probably want to design their robot mascot which is on the main screen under 'Robot Builder' they won't be able to do much at this stage as they need to read books to gain stars. With these stars, they can trade them in for funky clothing or colours for their robot.

After the robot, the children can choose to click on the blue planet: reading assignments or the yellow planet: book room on your own. Book room on your own allows the children to read or listen to a book and then take a quiz without being 'assessed'. The same books are available on the reading assignments planet but if the child clicks on this, they need access to a microphone on your computer or it will be accessed through your iPad. Once they click on this, it will record them reading the book and take a running record of how they read and will add up their accuracy rate for myself or you as parents can access and monitor.

You can access the parent login if you login via your child and then click parent access in the top right hand corner.

I just also want to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you for welcoming myself into the school, I could not have asked for a more dedicated and supportive parent body and I'm truly blessed to have your gorgeous children in my class.

I hope you have a restful and relaxing break and have a wonderful Easter!
