Learning Jouneys

A big thank you to all the parent that attended the Year One Learning Journeys this week.  The children were both excited and proud to share their work with you all and feedback from parents proved to be a wonderful afternoon of learning!

The children participated in a variety of Literacy and  Numeracy games as well as some wonderful spelling applications and smart board math games. A favourite game was definitely the sight word slap!

The gallery walk around the class was a great way for the children to reflect on their learning and the portfolio of work created some beautiful one on one time between parents and children. I felt so lucky to be in a room with very supportive and loving parents!

Thank you to all who came this week and a special thank you for filling out the parent reflection sheets - was lovely to read such positive and reassuring comments!

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend relaxing.

This is just a quick reminder that Learning Jouneys will be taking place tomorrow after school starting from 3.30pm. Thank you to all those people that have our there name down to come along and share this special time with your child.

There were still a couple of families that haven't put there name down and have not come to see me to arrange another time so if you have not done so, please put your name down tomorrow morning so not to miss out!

One more week to go!

Many thanks

Assembly Information

Good morning parents,

A note went home yesterday afternoon to indicate what your child must wear for our assembly on Friday the 25th of September. Please find a copy of the note in the link below in case it went walking

Mission Markets and Footy Mission Day

Mission markets have been moved to the last Friday of term which conveniently is the same day as our assembly. With both of these wonderful events happening after the assembly, if the children would like to bring their favourite footy guernsey (of course the DOCKERS!) or wear their favourite team colours for a gold coin donation, that would be a wonderful way to end our term.

All the money raised will go towards the Syrian crisis  which I think is a very deserving cause.

Thank you for your ongoing support throughout this term - so far it has been a big one!

Learning Journeys - Monday 21st September

Good Evening parents,

Learning Journeys will be occurring on Monday 21st September from 3.30pm - 5.20pm. The Year One Learning Journeys will provide you with a snap shot of what your child has been learning about so far this term. This is an opportunity for your child to show you some of their work over the past year in their portfolios and enjoy some of their favourite games and activities we play in our Literacy and Math dedicated time.

There are four time slots and each time slot will run for 20 minutes starting from 3.30pm. Up to eight families will be available per time slot to allow time to really engage with you child and spend some quality time... learning from them! A roster will be available outside the classroom from Monday afternoon. If you are unable to make it on the Monday 21st September, please let me know via email.

I hope you had a lovely weekend!

Mission Market - Year One Popcorn stall!

Good evening parents,

The mission markets will be held in Week 10 -  Friday 25th September and is a whole school initiative to raise money for the missions.

This year for the markets, the Year One students will be looking after the popcorn stall.

We would really appreciate a donation of a bag of popcorn kernels from each child to make our popcorn stall a success! If you could bring these by Friday next week (18th Sept), that would be fantastic!

Another big ask...I would love two or three volunteers to help pop the popcorn on the Friday morning of the mission markets. As we don't have Mrs. Keast and Mrs. Rann on this day, any help would a very much appreciated. We have a popcorn maker at school but if you had one to bring in that would make the popping process a lot quicker :)

Shoe Boxes

If you have not already, could you please bring in your donations tomorrow as we will begin to construct our shoe boxes to send overseas. The children will have a chance to write a letter and include a photo of themselves which will be included in the shoe box.

Have a lovely night and see you tomorrow.

Class community basket

This is just a quick note to say a very big thank you to the families who have been bringing in beautiful produce from their homes in exchange for coin donations.

We have had some beautiful fruit, vegetables and herbs coming in from Mrs. Kerr and have loved seeing all the children take such an interest in the produce arriving in the basket each morning.

If you would like to contribute to the class community basket, we would love anything you have to offer. All the money raised will go towards class resources for the children in Orange room.

Once again, a big thank you to all people donating to the basket so far! Love the community spirit!

Have a lovely night

Father's Day breakfast

Thank you to all of the Dad's that came to our Father's Day breakfast this morning it was a wonderful success! The staff put on a wonderful spread of sausages, eggs, baked beans, hash browns and toast. It was certainly a delicious start to the day!

A few snaps of some of the children and Dad's from our class this morning. My apologies to those I didn't manage to get a photo - I was on baked bean duty until just before school started!

I hope you had a lovely Father's Day and you enjoyed the presents that the children made for you!

Getting colourful in Science!

In Science we have been learning about how different materials can change in a variety of ways.
Last week, the Year One students took part in a hands on Science experiment called Rainbow in a bowl.

The children were very excited to start the experiment so we got to work straight away. First, we had to look at our ingredients and predict what was going to happen. Some of the children had wonderful predictions about smoke forming; colour blasting and we even had some children predict an explosion!

The ingredients in our experiment were:

- Hi lo Milk
- Food Colouring x 4 colours
- 50 ml Dishwashing liquid

After talking about our predictions, it was time to begin! We divided the class into a boys and girls table and poured the milk into a large bowl. We then put a few drops of food colouring around the plate of milk and then we were ready for the rainbow to begin!

Cooper was my Science assistant for the boys table and Zahra for the girls table. They each poured the dishwashing liquid into the milk and the colours started to mix around the bowl just like a rainbow!

We discovered that the fat in the milk was pushed to the edge of the bowl when the dishwashing liquid tried to mix in. The fat in the milk moved the colours around which made for an amazing sight.

This relates to the outcome of: Everyday materials can be physically changed in a variety of ways (ACSSU018within the Chemical Science strand of the Western Australian curriculum.

The children had a fantastic time learning about mixtures!

Have a lovely night

    Book Week 2015

Book Week 2015 was an absolute blast! We started our morning checking out all of our wonderful costumes (well done to all the parents for their amazing efforts!). We got ozone photos of all of our costumes and I loved all the proud faces of all the parents - was a great sight to see!

We then headed off to the hall for our annual book week parade. The hall was filled with Cat in the hats, Elsas, Spidermen and of our favourite book characters. You could not contain our excitement!

Mrs. Meyer started the morning off with a bang and showed us a video from David Wirrapunda personally thanking us for all the money we raised for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. We then started our Book Week Parade and had a look at the whole school dressed up in their amazing costumes. Everyone put in a wonderful effort but I think the Year One's were the best dressed - but of course,  I am bias!

We then went back to class and did some writing about what we came as for book week. Our writing was accompanied by a picture of our selves dressed as our characters. We are getting so good at remembering our writing goals when we are writing and it is really paying off!

We finished our day with the Great Book Swap at the library. Everyone in our class got some great books to read and we loved seeing all of our donated books being enjoyed by other people in our class.

Thank you to everyone for your donations of both money and books, we raised a lot of money for a very worthy cause!

A few snaps of all the wonderful characters in our class! We had an awesome day!

    Have a lovely night!
