Good afternoon parents,
Just a few things this week...I can't believe that we are almost at the end of the term!
Bug Catchers
Next Wednesday we are constructing our bug catchers from 1.45pm and yesterday I sent home the children with their bug catcher plan. If you could bring these back as soon as they have discussed their design with you, that would be wonderful as these will be needed next Wednesday.
We would love as many helpers as possible so please feel free to email me if you are available!
Assembly
Obviously it's been in your diary's since the beginning of the year, but next Friday is our performance assembly! The children are SO excited that they get to show you what they have been working on this term and I am so looking forward to seeing the children in their costumes! If you have any questions, please let me know.
Mr Wilkie's farewell
If you can make it this Friday, we will be having a special farewell Liturgy for Mr Wilkie from 1.30pm. You are all invited to have a light afternoon tea after the special event.
Absentee Notes
I will be sending notes home with the children this week regarding absences throughout the semester. If you could please sign them ASAP and get them back to me, that would be very much appreciated as I need these to finish my reports.
Reports
Reports will be handed out next Friday at 3pm. The children have worked incredibly hard over the semester and it has been an absolute pleasure to see their growth over their time in Year One. All the teachers have worked very hard on creating a differentiated learning environment for your child to thrive and this is certainly reflected in their work. If you will not be here on the last day, the reports will be mailed to you via the post.
Thank you for your ongoing support.

Week 8 information
Good morning parents,
Just a few things for this week :)
Sight words
Both Mrs. Hughes and I have noticed that the children are quite tired this week and they have worked very hard in class to finish their narratives, so we will not be testing sight words this week. The final test will be next Wednesday and Thursday and we will leave week 10 as a review week.
Bug Catchers
Please keep bringing in your containers and other items that your child needs for their bug catchers. We are going through our design today so your child (should) be able to come home and tell you what they need. Please refer the the previous blog post for ideas.
Cross Country
Next Thursday at 9 am we have our annual our cross country carnival. We ask that your child come to school in their faction shirt ready for the day. The carnival will be finished by 11am and the Year One children are up first to run (so hopefully be at around 9.10am/9.15am). After the race the children will watch years 2-3 race and then eat their sip and crunch back in class and then join the rest of the school at the end of the carnival for presentations.
2 weeks to go!
Many thanks

Year 1P Bug Catchers
Bug Catchers
Over the past few weeks we have planned, designed and labelled a model for our very own bug catcher. The next step will be gathering materials that we need to make our bug catcher. Over the next 2 weeks, we are asking the children to bring in any materials that might be useful for the construction of their own design. Please talk to your child at home about what they would like to collect and bring into school by Friday 28th June. Any materials that are specifically collected for your child’s own design should be placed in a plastic bag with their name on it. Any materials to be shared can be placed in a bag labelled shared materials.
Some useful materials may include:
- Clean empty jars or containers with lids
- PVC pipe/clear tubing
- Clear plastic milk bottles/juice containers
- Mesh/netting
- Pipe cleaners/string
- Rocks/stones
- Anything else you can think of!

See examples below:
Please keep an eye on the blog for the construction date as we would LOVE some parent helpers!
Thank you for your ongoing support

Assembly parts
Dear parents,
On Friday the 5th of July (week 10) it is our performance assembly.
Our assembly will reflect a collection of our learning so far this year and we would really appreciate it if you were able to help fulfil our (dramatic) vision by helping with some costumes.
These can be very simple and don’t need to be over the top and feel free to be as creative as you’d like!
The following are the characters within our play.
I have also put the songs that the children will be singing onto the blog so the children can practise (without giving too much away).
Mini Beast song
Skip counting song
If you have any questions or queries, please let me know.
Thank you for your ongoing support Miss Prowse

Week 7 Information
Dear Parents,
I can't believe we are in week 7! The weeks are just flying by and the next thing we know, it will be Christmas!
Below are some reminders about the up coming events in the next couple of weeks:
Mental Maths books
My apologies for not giving out the Mental Maths books this afternoon, they were hidden around the corner and I forgot to hand them out. Unit six will be due this Friday. If your child is having any issues or problems, please let me know on that particular question within the unit.
Year 1P Assembly week 10
On Friday the 5th of July, we have our performance assembly. If you know that you will not be here for this day, could you please email me ASAP as I have allocated parts to the children today. I will be putting up the parts and (small) costume requirements on the blog tomorrow, but just wanted to confirm who would be at school on this date.
World Refugee Day
Next week is world Refugee Week and Refugee Day is the 20th June. We are planning a rice day to raise awareness of the plight of Refugees. This year this will be an experience, rather than a fundraiser, although if families want to they might make a contribution to the Caritas boxes.
All students are welcome to participate in rice for lunch at no charge. They will be given a serve of plain boiled rice only. We are trying to help them understand what it means to go without. If parents think that their child will require additional sustenance on the day they are welcome to pack extra food.
Students will be asked to bring their own bowl and spoon that is clearly labelled with their name on it. This will take place on the Friday of week 8 (21st of June).
If you have any questions please email me.
