A quick reminder

Good afternoon parents,

This is just a quick reminder that the wheels after meals roller blading/skate boarding and scooter-ing session for the Year One and Two children will take place tomorrow at lunch time. The children should put any equipment such as knee pads, helmets and scooters etc. behind Mr Lee's office in the morning. Please be sure to bring in your permission slip otherwise your child will not be able to participate in this wonderful opportunity.

Merit Award Winner

Congratulations to Grace who was our week 9 Merit Award winner! You are a little superstar Grace!

PJ Day

We loved coming to school in our PJ's last Friday. We raised over $350 for Project Compassion and the children had a wonderful (and comfortable day) at school.

School Starting time

Just a gentle reminder that our school day begins at 8.40 am. After that time, you must sign in your child at the office as it is apart of our attendance record directed from Catholic Education. If you need to speak to me urgently, please try and catch me before 8.40 am or send an email the night before as I am often taking the children down to fitness or Library on a Friday. I appreciate your support with this.

One week to go!

Welcome to Week 9

Good afternoon parents,

I hope you had a lovely weekend in the sunshine and have made the most of the sunny weather before the downfall of rain begins!

Just a few messages for this week...

Homework

Homework has been glued into your child's homework if they brought their book in and will be due on the last day of Term (Friday 3rd July). If you would like to bring it in earlier, please feel free to do so. We understand that the children are getting tired towards the end of the term but we feel that a good routine needs to be maintained to benefit your child's learning journey. We would really appreciate if you could do the top three grey boxes which includes:

  • Reading 10-15 aloud each night
  • Spelling: Children using their sound out fist to identify how many sounds are in each word. We are learning the ir/ur/er sound over the next two weeks.
  • Fluency grid: Read the words as fast as they can and tick each word they get correct and dot the words they need more practice with.

Friday - PJ Day

This Friday the 26th is Pajama day at OLC. All students are invited to wear the pajamas to school for a gold coin donation. This money will be going towards our school Caritas fundraising.

Meals after wheels
Next Monday 29th June, the Year Two and One students have the opportunity to participate in “Wheels After Meals”. This involves bringing their roller blades/skateboards or scooters to school to ride at lunchtime after eating their lunch.  They will also be required to bring all the appropriate safety gear, (helmet, knee & elbow pads), labelled with their name.  Students should put their roller blades/skateboards or scooter in the area behind Mr Lee’s office.
If your child would like to participate, please send the attached permission slip to their class teacher by Friday this week (19th June). This will be sent out soon from Admin.
The students will be supervised by Mr Torrese and Mr Lee in the top car park on Monday.

Cross Country
We would love to see you at the annual OLC Cross Country next Wednesday the 1st of July. The Year Ones will be the first class running at 9.15 and the carnival will conclude by 11.00 am. Presentations will be held next term, when we can hold Assemblies - Yay!

It is asked that you park in the top car park or the Sloan car park as the gravel car park will be closed. We would love to see you there!

Phew! I think that is everything! I hope you have a lovely week!

Good evening parents,

In saying this, the way the children have come into school and settled themselves in has been an absolute credit to you all. They blow me away everyday and this has definitely taken a step up!

Just a few messages for this week...

Just a few messages for this week:

Star Citizen and Merit Awards

Congratulations to our Star Citizen Award winner for Appreciation Hazel and this weeks Merit Award winner Darcy! You are both Year One Super Stars!

Pick up and Drop Off

Next week will be the beginning of the Phase 3 restrictions lifted and parents will be allowed back into school groups however they will continue to not be able to enter classrooms.  Mr Lee will confirm this when he knows the details.  School will continue to start with open doors at 8.30 (with time to swap home readers and set up) and we often leave at 8.40 on the bell for morning fitness, and we are currently learning athletics carnival team games and practising for cross country so please make sure your child is here by 8.40am.

Parents are asked to continue the Kiss and Drop routine from the classroom door and not to enter classrooms.  The chance to experience Gathering Time without parent presence has taught us that the children are way more likely to act in independent and organised ways.  We have been so impressed with the way children are putting in their own lunch orders, putting their water bottles away all by and crunch and sip from bags onto desks.  They have shown to us how well they can organise themselves and pack/unpack own belongings that we want to keep this up. The noise level is also much better and we have noticed reduced anxiety issues in the mornings. We believe this is normal practice in most schools and want to continue the calm start to the mornings.

The drop-off pick up lane before school will continue to be free to use.  The after school pick up lanes will also continue with supervision provided with the same processes currently in place so feel free to continue using this as it working efficiently.  If you would like to use the pick-up lane/bus on a consistent day/s each week, feel free to email me and I can put it in the communication for extended time.  We will provide a communication book outside the class for any last minute or any out of the ordinary end of school movements - or feel free to continue to send a note with your child with any information.

Library Books and PLD bags

PLD Bags are due in on a Tuesday and if forgotten you will receive a text from Mrs Kemp in the library.  Library Day is Friday and children must have their own library bag in order to take a book home.

Thank you for your ongoing support,

Miss Prowse
