Just a few messages for this week...

Please ensure you send in your child's permission slip if you haven't already. If you have misplaced your note, please let me know and I can give you another copy.

We still would love some parent helpers to both come with the groups through the rotations and cook a sausage sizzle (from 12.00pm), please let us know if you can help in any capacity and for any amount of time.

HOMEWORK AND LIBRARY FINISHED FOR THE YEAR

As it is nearing the end of term, we have finished our homework grid for the year in order to get through the last couple of busy weeks at school and to reduce workload (and keep your little ones playing and active outside!).  We would really appreciate if you could bring in any home readers or library books you have at home as Mrs. Kemp will be taking a stocktake of the library.

We would also ask you to continue sending your child's reading folder as we will be sending home bundles of work over the next two weeks and the reading folder provides a safe and secure way for these things to be stored.

Good evening parents,

I hope you had a lovely weekend and managed to stay dry! I shot up to Perth yesterday for my final dress fitting so the children had the wonderful Mrs. Sorgiovanni today. I cannot belive that we only have four beautiful weeks left in Year One! I know I am feeling very sad just thinking about it!

Just a few messages for this week...

Vinnies Chrsitmas Hamper Appeal

Each year at OLC we take time to be thankful for our blessings and to assist those in need by contributing to Christmas Hampers distributed by the St. Vincent De Paul Society. This year boxes will be located in EACH CLASSROOM and families are invited to contribute specified items. Please look out for boxes coming your way in the next few days. The Year One classes are asked to donate pantry items sich as: Tinned foods, pasta, rice, biscuits, crackers, sauces, jams, condiments, (basically any non-perishable good food, which can be used beyond Christmas).

Celebrity Visit!

On Friday, we were extremley lucky to have an amazing local celebrity quthor come into class and share her new book 'Come home Ella'. This celebrity is one of our beautiful parents Chelsea Davis (Mahli's Mum) and we were very proivledged to be the first people to hear her book read aloud to a crowd! The children were in awe and abslouely loved the story of Ella and her sister.

A little bit about the book:

Come Home Ella light-heartedly follows the emotional journey of a family after their baby's early arrival. Told through the eyes of baby Ella's older sibling, it aims to educate children about premature babies and help families experiencing similar situations deal with the emotions involved.

If you would like to purchase Chelsea's book (and some of the profits go towards our P and F fundraising) Please click on the link below or check out the flyer coming home tomorrow.

MERIT AWARD WINNER FOR WEEK 3

Congratulations to Ginger who was the Week 3 merit awar winner. You are a Year One super star!

 SPAGHETTI FUN

In Science we have been looking at Chemical Science and how some materials be can changed if we add heat or cool them. We looked at cooked spaghetti earlier in the term and loved playing with the stretchy, sticky, flexible pasta and created a picture with our spaghetti.

Last week we experimented with uncooked spaghetti and used this materail to make spaghetti towers with marshmellows. The children loved working in teams to create their masterpieces. In the end it was Jack's team that had the tallest tower!

I hope you have a lovely week!
