Year 1P gets foodie!

Throughout Term Two, the Year One students will be participating in the OLC food garden project. On Thursday, we were very lucky to have Mrs. Kerr and Mrs. Mc Ginley to come in and help get our hands dirty by planting some broad bean seeds. To start our project, we had a discussion about what our seeds needed to grow and what we needed to do to take care of them. The children came up with water, sunshine, shade, soil and of course love to keep our little plants going!

We also looked at the life cycle of a broad bean and spoke about the part of the life cycle that we would be starting today.

We then went outside and used our newspaper planters, (Mrs. Drmota, Mr. Rogan and Mrs. Kerr again)  put on our gardening gloves and we filled them with soil. We then got one of our heritage broad bean seeds and planted them into our soil. It was a bit tricky for some of the children in our class as the pots were very delicate!

After planting our seeds, we came inside and completed an activity which broke the broad bean life cycle into 6 stages. The children were very clever completed the activity with ease.

Watch this space to see how our beans are going!
