It has been great to get back into the classroom with the children after the holidays! We have been learning lots of new things and we are looking forward to a very BIG term of fun!
A few pieces of information for this week...and this term:
Sight words
This week, the children will be tested on their sight-words on either Wednesday or Friday as the outstanding Mrs. Hughes will be attending our Inter school cross country. I know that many of the children have been practising over the holidays, which is wonderful!
Targeting Mental Maths
This week we are up to unit 10 for our Maths focus. Please try not to let your child go ahead as I like to keep track of their progress each week :)

Welcome Mass:
This Sunday, we will be having the first Mass lead by Father Francis. If you would like to join Fr Francis for his first mass at OLTSC this Sunday morning at 9am, we would love to see you there.
Champion Life:
We have started using a new physical fitness and mental well being application called Champion Life. This has been a great addition to the class room, along with our GoNoodle program where the children can participate in challenges presented by professional athletes, role models and every day people who are the best in their field of expertise.
Parent Roster
Our Parent roster is now up outside our classroom, please feel free to pop your name down to help out in class from 8.45-11.00am.
Excursion
Keep your eyes on the blog for an exciting excursion happening in week 9 of this term :)
Science - Bug Catchers
Last term, the children participated in a STEM project of creating a bug catcher using recyclable materials. After weeks of planning and designing their own creations, the children were delighted to be able to finally put their ideas into action! We are very thankful for all of our hands on parent helpers who gave up part of their day to sticky tape, hot glue and assist with refining the Year 1's designs. The project would not have happened without you!
There were lots of amazing designs and some that even came with a hand designed disco balls! We had a great time creating and designing our bug catchers!
Minute to win it - A unit on Time
We have has so much fun learning about time in Year One! We have participated in a variety of hands on activities which help us learn about both digital and analogue clocks. We have especially loved making times on the clock and learning that the big hand points to the minutes and the little hand points to the hours.
The children have played games, used mini clocks to make time and have used the 'telling time' app on the I Pads to explore how we can tell the time. The highlight of our unit on time was when we participated in a variety of 'Minute to win it' activities where we rotated through various activities and had 60 seconds to complete them! The children loved working together as a team and learning about the importance of time!
