Dear Parents,
Welcome to week 6! It's been a big few weeks in the OLC calendar and the next few will (hopefully) be a little less busy!
Just a few messages for this week...
Mental Maths
We are currently up to unit 14 (due this Friday) for our Mental Maths books. I am loving how the some of the children feel so confident when they bring in their books each week! If there is anything that your child finds difficult or challenging, please write it into the book at that particular question and I will endeavour to review it with them in class.
Fathers Day Breakfast Friday 30th August
The time has come to celebrate our Dads with a delicious breakfast...if you can please make sure that you have sent your RSVP to your class rep for Friday's breakfast...it begins at 7am!
Meelup Free Dress
On Friday 30th August all students in Meelup can come in free dress for the day as they have won the token count for the first 5 weeks of term. Well done to Meelup!
Operation Christmas Child
Over the next couple of weeks, the Year One children are going to participate in an initiative called 'Operation Christmas Child' which aims to pack a shoebox to give to a child who has never received a gift before. This ties into our school value of Compassion as we are helping less fortunate children in need.
Your child will be grouped with three other children to contribute and pack the shoebox. The cost to send a shoe box will be $2.50 per child. We are asking you to encourage your child to do something extra at home to earn the money that is needed to buy the item to put into the provided shoebox.
Please see below an example of the provided shoe box for Operation Christmas child:
Over the next few days, your child will bring home a note which shows you what kind of items can be sent away in the shoebox. We are asking for all donations to be brought to school by Friday 13th September (end of week 8) please. It is very exciting for the children to share in this initiative which has been a part of the O.L.C. Community for the last 16 years.
There is no need to bring in shoe boxes, as we have been kindly donated them from The Samaritans Purse.
Year One Family Mass
On Saturday the 7th of September, all the children in Year One are invited to attend a class family Mass hosted by Father Francis at Our Lady of the Southern Cross Church at 6pm. We are very lucky that we have a pizza dinner donated by the P&F to be enjoyed after the Mass. Please email me to let me know if you are able to make it as there some little jobs I would love the children to be involved in.
Keep an eye on the blog for some of our Science and Maths learning over the next couple of days!
Thank you for your ongoing support
