Thank you for coming along to celebrate our special prayer assembly last Friday. The children did a fantastic job and we were so excited for you to be there. It was lovely to be able to reflect on our Religion programs and give you a bit of an insight into what we have been learning about in class. Here are a couple of photos from the day.
See you all tomorrow.

Cross Country fun
The a Year One's had a wonderful time at the OLC cross country on Thursday. We were getting ready for some running by warming up with Mrs. Sinclair and the Year 6 leaders.
After our warm up we were the first year level up to race and boy were we pumped!! The boys were up first and they did a fantastic job at running!
Then it was the girls turn and they were just as fast!
Sienna thought I was looking a bit lonely and thought it would be a good idea if I came for a run! So even I got to run the cross country with my beautiful girls!
Congratulations to our boy winners: Banjo, Remy, Charlie and Gabe and our girl winners: Saffi, Ruby, Allira, Ella. Everyone who participated were winners in my eyes so the whole Year One class are champions!
We had fun dancing while the other year levels were running too. It was a very tiring day, but we had a fantastic time at the cross country!

Getting creative in Science!
The Year One students had a wonderful time last week observing the features of a snail. After looking at them we drew a labelled diagram of what a snail looked like...but I wanted to see if they remembered all the features a week later. I must say, I was blown away!
We got creative and used modelling clay to show our understanding of what a snail looks like. We had to remember the tentacles, the shell, the foot, the air hole and the eye spots. By making our snail, it gave the children an opportunity to tell myself what they knew about snails, without having to write down their knowledge. This created another avenue for each child to show their understanding of the Science concept.

Year One gets foodie!
Throughout Term Two, the Year One students will be participating in the OLC food garden project. On Thursday, we were very lucky to have Mr. Roberts, Mrs. Love Van Es and Mrs. Kerr to come in and help get our hands dirty by planting some broad bean seeds. To start our project, we had a discussion about what our seeds needed to grow and what we needed to do to take care of them. The children came up with water, sunshine, shade, soil and of course love to keep our little plants going!
We then went outside and used our newspaper planters, (thank you Mrs. Douglas and Mrs. Kerr again) put on our gardening gloves and we filled them with soil. We then got one of our heritage broad bean seeds and planted them into our soil. It was a bit tricky for some of the children in our class as the pots were very delicate!
We got all the beans planted and then we went back inside to finish off our activity. We then had a visit from the Year 6 Environment group and then we thought we would go have a look at our food garden to see where our beans would be planted when they grew a bit bigger.

Our resident expert Mr Roberts was on roster at the perfect time as he was full of knowledge about the different plants, herbs and vegetables that we grow in our garden. The Year 6's came along with us and showed us where the worms were kept...they were a bit smelly!
The Year One students had an absolute ball making our bean pots and exploring our food garden! A big thank you to our parent helpers and wonderful Year 6's! If you see the pots outside our room, encourage your children to tell you what their bean needs to grow!
Hope you had a restful weekend!
