End of Term Three Information

Shoe Boxes
Thank you all for your generous donations with the shoe boxes. They are being picked up this Friday and will be sent off to reach their destination by Christmas. The children had fun putting their items together and boxing their gifts up during our Religion lesson last week.

Think Mentals
This Friday units 15 and 16 are due to be completed in the Think Mentals book. During the week we reviewed the concept of 'near doubles', an important mental calculation strategy that is addressed in the Think Mentals text.

Spelling/Sight Word Revision

Below is the link to the spelling sounds covered in our differentiated spelling groups this term:
Although there is no homework allocated for holidays, it would be a great idea to revise the sounds that your child had been learning in their spelling group across the term. Just ask your child what colour group they are in! The holidays are also a fantastic time to revise sight words, I will make sure that all homework folders go home over the holidays so that your child has their sight words at home.

Calendar Orders
Our Calendar Art is in a display file by the classroom door. If you would like to purchase your child's artwork orders need to be in by Friday 13th October (week 1 of next term).

Prac Student
In week 2 next term we will have Mrs Tanya Harte completing her four week teaching prac in our classroom. The Year Ones have already had a visit from Mrs Harte this week. Stay tuned for more information about Mrs Harte on our upcoming blog posts.

Colouring In Competition
Last week, some colouring in forms went home for the South West Wellness Expo. If your child wishes to enter their colouring into the competition, their entry must be at school by this Friday (tomorrow).

Rosters
The news roster for Term 4 went home today and our Parent Help Roster is up on the pin up board outside the classroom. Due to Mrs Harte being here from weeks 2-5 we are not requesting parent help until week 6 of next term.

Chicken Pox
There has been a reported case of the chicken pox in Year One. As there has only been one case reported, we can not send out an official letter to parents just yet. Please visit your local GP if you have any concerns over the holidays.

Assembly
Year 1P and 1R are coming together to present a Prayer Assembly on Friday 20th October (week 2). There will be no costumes required for this assembly and we will send allocated reading parts home early next term.

Thank you all for another wonderful term in Year One! I hope you enjoy a lovely holiday making the most of the time you have with your families. Bring on the Spring sunshine and warm weather again!

Have a great holiday!

Wonnerup House Excursion

On Friday the 15th of September, the Year One class set off on an excursion to Wonnerup house, just outside of Busselton, near the Tuart Forest.

The children were very excited to be in their olden day clothes and loved comparing the clothing from the olden days to today. We hopped on the bus and although there were a lot of 'are we there yet?' questions, the children were excited to be going to visit 'the old place where they had no internet' - as quoted by one of the children.

We started the excursion with a 15 minute video about the history of Wonnerup House to which we found out that the whole community burnt down and had to be rebuilt!

We then set off in our groups with our wonderful parent helpers and started to explore the amazing grounds. We visited The Main House, The Black Smith shop, The Stables, The Dairy Kitchen and finally (and a personal) favourite The old School House. The children loved learning about all the olden day things like the wash board, the chamber pot, the Grandfather clock and many more!

The children absolutely loved looking at all the different things that the children in the past had encounter. The cane was one of the more fascinating features and the simple teachers house just metres away from the school was also an interesting facet to look at.... The fact that the teachers house was so close must have meant he or she would have been extremely dedicated to their job - or could run home for lunch easily!

We then had our lunch and participated in a variety of olden day games including cricket, quoits, hoola hooping, skipping and good old fashioned hide and seek. The sun came out throughout the day and some of the Mum's loved sun baking and catching a glimpse of that Spring sun.

It was an absolutely wonderful day and it wouldn't have been possible without the help of our wonderful parents: Kim, Holly, Rebecca and Cath (and James).

The children had a wonderful time learning about children in the 'Olden Days'.

A BIG thank you to everyone who organised costumes too, they loved being brought back into the past :)

2017 Faction Sports Carnival!

On Thursday 14th September, OLC held their annual faction carnival.  It was an absolutely beautiful spring day and the children came to school extremely excited to start the carnival!

The children looked outstanding in their coloured zinc, face paint and  coloured hairspray! The excitement continued as the children went into their faction bays and loved joining in with the older children cheering for the team.

I'm not sure, but I think the motivation of lollies from the faction captains might have made the children cheer extra hard. The running races were a great indication of just how fast our year ones are! They would definitely leave me behind in the 50m sprint!

The team games were a hit and I think one of the favourites of the day had to be 'stone, bridge, tree' and the flag relay!

Congratulations to our runner up champion boy Hudson and our champion boy Kai and our runner up champion girl Piper and champion girl Leila.

A big thank you to all the parents who helped with the event coordination, the set up and pack up and a HUGE thank you to Mrs. Sinclair for the wonderful day she put together.

Have a lovely day!

Week 8 Information

Good afternoon parents,

We have a few reminders this week before the down hill run to the end of the term :)

Excursion Info
Thank you to all those people who volunteered to come as helpers on our excursion. We had 16 people volunteer over the two classes so we felt it was only fair that we pull names out of hats.
The people from our class are as follows:

  • Rebecca Appleton
  • Holly Rogan
  • Kim Archer
  • Cath Dwyer
Once again, thank you so much to those people who volunteered, you are awesome!

Shoe Boxes
Thank you to all those who have given in their money and item for their shoe box. We still have a few people that haven't given their item or money yet, but if you are unable to do this, please send me an email and I can arrange something for you.

Jumps tomorrow
A reminder for all children to come in their sports faction uniform tomorrow for jumps day. We are planning on having the event between 2.10pm and 3pm so if you would like to come down or help out, we would love to see you:)

Little Mermaid
The children got to see the wonderful production this afternoon and I can say it was OUTSTANDING! If you haven't got tickets, there are still tickets available for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I'm sure the children would love to see the production under the wonderful lights

Phew, I think that's it!

Many thanks for your ongoing support
