Welcome to Week Six

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Week Six! I can't believe we are over half way through the term!  What a wonderful glimpse of Spring we received on Sunday and even better to celebrate the Dockers (...and Eagles) win for the weekend! Both Hugh and I were lucky enough to head to the game and see the boys have a win!

There are just a few messages for this week...

FACTION CARNIVAL

OLC’s Sport Carnival is on this Thursday 27th August. Parent spectators are welcome! Students are to report to class by 8:40am and we will come down to the faction bays around 9am. The children are to wear their faction shirts on this day and may wear faction colours in their hair or coloured sunscreen. They can also bring a team mascot in their faction colour!

Please ensure that they pack plenty of healthy snacks and a full water bottle for the day. Please return the note sent home today if you are planning to take your child home at the conclusion of the carnival. We don’t know what time it will finish but it is expected that it will be before 3pm, therefore, we need to know who will be leaving or returning to class until the final bell.

Wheelie Walkie Waste Free Wednesday

It’s on again! Get those bikes, scooters and walking shoes ready, and leave those cars and wasteful lunch packaging behind.

Our Wheelie, Walkie, Waste -Free Wednesdays will commence again on Wednesday Week 6, 7 & 8!

Once again class participation will be recorded and the winning class will receive a free excursion (provided by the City Busselton) of their choice, somewhere within the City of Busselton region.

1P for the win!!!!

Fruit on arrival in the mornings will once again be provided (also the from the City of Busselton) this year, however due to current health and safety regulations, whole pieces of fruit will be distributed as opposed to cut-up pieces.

Throws and Jumps

The children all tried so hard and gave their best efforts in the Throws and Jumps event. Please see below for the 1P children who got a place. Congratulations to everyone for great sportsmanship!

Homework

Just a gentle reminder that homework for this fortnight is due Wednesday the 26th of August. If you have any questions or if you are happy for your child to hand it in early, please let me know.

Family Mass - Postponed

Our Year One family Mass that was due to proceed on Saturday the 12th of September has been postponed until further notice due to current Phase Four restrictions. We will let you know if another date can be arranged.

Our Learning

We have been very busy in Year 1P with some amazing things happening across all learning areas!

In English we have been learning about persuasive texts in both reading and writing and have loved reading through our Mentor Texts of 'Winter is the best season in Dunsborough' and 'Do you want to be a pirate?'. The children have loved extending and learning about new vocabulary as well as writing their own versions of each of the texts. I have been blown away with the amazing writing the children have been producing. Keep an eye on the blog for some amazing work coming up!

Thank you for your ongoing support,

Have a look at some of this amazing work below!

P.S I love the last reason of Mum and Dad can't get you!

In Maths we have loved learning about Skip counting, Multiplication (equal groups) and division. The children have loved taking part in hands on activities to explore how division and multiplication relate to one another.

Paul Klee and Picasso have been our Artist focus in Art and the children have loved creating their reflections for display in our class. You may have seen a sneak peak in our classroom this morning put up by the beautiful Mrs. Hughes.

In Science we have loved learning about clouds, Day and night and all things earth and space! The children absolutely loved seeing our cloud in a jar experiment last week! Have a look at the video below if you'd like to do it at home.

I hope you have had a lovely week and look forward o more fun and learning ahead!
