Class community basket

This is just a quick note to say a very big thank you to the families who have been bringing in beautiful produce from their homes in exchange for coin donations.

We have had some beautiful fruit, vegetables and herbs coming in from Mrs. Kerr and have loved seeing all the children take such an interest in the produce arriving in the basket each morning.

If you would like to contribute to the class community basket, we would love anything you have to offer. All the money raised will go towards class resources for the children in Orange room.

Once again, a big thank you to all people donating to the basket so far! Love the community spirit!

Have a lovely night

Father's Day breakfast

Thank you to all of the Dad's that came to our Father's Day breakfast this morning it was a wonderful success! The staff put on a wonderful spread of sausages, eggs, baked beans, hash browns and toast. It was certainly a delicious start to the day!

A few snaps of some of the children and Dad's from our class this morning. My apologies to those I didn't manage to get a photo - I was on baked bean duty until just before school started!

I hope you had a lovely Father's Day and you enjoyed the presents that the children made for you!

Getting colourful in Science!

In Science we have been learning about how different materials can change in a variety of ways.
Last week, the Year One students took part in a hands on Science experiment called Rainbow in a bowl.

The children were very excited to start the experiment so we got to work straight away. First, we had to look at our ingredients and predict what was going to happen. Some of the children had wonderful predictions about smoke forming; colour blasting and we even had some children predict an explosion!

The ingredients in our experiment were:

- Hi lo Milk
- Food Colouring x 4 colours
- 50 ml Dishwashing liquid

After talking about our predictions, it was time to begin! We divided the class into a boys and girls table and poured the milk into a large bowl. We then put a few drops of food colouring around the plate of milk and then we were ready for the rainbow to begin!

Cooper was my Science assistant for the boys table and Zahra for the girls table. They each poured the dishwashing liquid into the milk and the colours started to mix around the bowl just like a rainbow!

We discovered that the fat in the milk was pushed to the edge of the bowl when the dishwashing liquid tried to mix in. The fat in the milk moved the colours around which made for an amazing sight.

This relates to the outcome of: Everyday materials can be physically changed in a variety of ways (ACSSU018within the Chemical Science strand of the Western Australian curriculum.

The children had a fantastic time learning about mixtures!

    Book Week 2015

Book Week 2015 was an absolute blast! We started our morning checking out all of our wonderful costumes (well done to all the parents for their amazing efforts!). We got ozone photos of all of our costumes and I loved all the proud faces of all the parents - was a great sight to see!

We then headed off to the hall for our annual book week parade. The hall was filled with Cat in the hats, Elsas, Spidermen and of our favourite book characters. You could not contain our excitement!

Mrs. Meyer started the morning off with a bang and showed us a video from David Wirrapunda personally thanking us for all the money we raised for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. We then started our Book Week Parade and had a look at the whole school dressed up in their amazing costumes. Everyone put in a wonderful effort but I think the Year One's were the best dressed - but of course,  I am bias!

We then went back to class and did some writing about what we came as for book week. Our writing was accompanied by a picture of our selves dressed as our characters. We are getting so good at remembering our writing goals when we are writing and it is really paying off!

We finished our day with the Great Book Swap at the library. Everyone in our class got some great books to read and we loved seeing all of our donated books being enjoyed by other people in our class.

Thank you to everyone for your donations of both money and books, we raised a lot of money for a very worthy cause!

A few snaps of all the wonderful characters in our class! We had an awesome day!

    Have a lovely night!
