Parent Information

Year One Prayer Assembly

Thank you to all the parents who came this morning to join in our prayer assembly. The children did a beautiful job of singing some lovely songs and celebrating the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday.

Anniversary Mass

The OLC 20 year Anniversary is this Friday the 1st of April. We would love it if you would join us for Mass at 10am to celebrate this momentous occasion.  There will be an opportunity for you to purchase a book for our school Library that includes a plaque with your family name. This a wonderful way to capture your child's time at OLC as well as supplying our library with some much loved books.

Sports Uniform

We have been asked to bring your child in their sports uniform tomorrow (Thursday 31st March) as the OLC mass will require the children to be dressed in full school uniform.

Math and English Book Feedback

Thank you to everyone to returned their children's books today. I have throughly enjoyed reading all of your wonderful feedback from your child's work. I noticed a lot of you had said that they were extremely proud of how hard their child has tried and how much they had learnt! We have lots of fun in Year One filled with ALOT of learning!

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Lots of socks Day and Easter prayer service

Lots of Socks Day

Tomorrow (Monday the 21st March)  is World Down Syndrome Day. We are going to use Lots of Socks Dayto raise awareness of Down Syndrome and to create conversations about diversity, uniqueness, inclusion and acceptance.

To achieve this we are inviting all students to wear crazy, zany socks on Monday to celebrate the day. Socks of multi-colour, different colours, different lengths, odd socks anything goes. Why socks? .... All types, shapes, sizes can be unique in their own way, and yet do the same thing.

Children understand what socks are, how they look and what they are for; and no two socks are the same. This is also the case with people, each person being unique, different and special.

So please encourage your children to get involved on Monday and wear crazy, zany socks to school to help celebrate world Down Syndrome day. No donation is required, this is simply to raise awareness of Down Syndrome in our community.

Easter Prayer Service

On Wednesday the 30th of March, the Year One students will be leading the school in the resurrection of Jesus to conclude our Holy Week celebrations. We would love to have you there to see us sing some wonderful songs and celebrate in this special occasion. The prayer service will begin at 9.00am.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

We are Smarty Pants in Year One!

We have had such fun reading the book Smarty Pants by Joy Cowley last week! We got to read together as a class and we even had some very clever people read on their own in the big book corner!

Throughout the book, a very funny clown called Smarty Pants tells us what he can do....he can ski, swim, jump, play music and at the end, he shows us he can swing....right into a tree!

We found out that all these doing words are called verbs! We learnt a rhyme that goes like this:
'A verb is a word it's an action word, if you can do it, then you do it, if you do it, it's a verb,'
We created ourselves into smarty pants and wrote about some things we are good at!

Here are some of the Smarty Pants in our class! Don't you just love their faces!

During our literacy session, we participated in a language activity by making and decorating smarty pants biscuits, with real smarties! Some people went a bit crazy with the blue icing, but they looked and tasted delicious!

Sentence construction gets better every time we do it! Some people showed us how smart they were by finishing the sentence: I am a smarty pants see me____. Here are a few of pictures of some of the work we did in class.

We had great fun in our shared reading sessions learning and reading about Smarty Pants!
