In class we have spoken about writing goals and how in our writing, we can 'Dig Deeper for Detail'. Below is a picture that I showed the children which illustrates what I want to see in their writing. I explained that when we write, we can make a simple sentence a lot more interesting by describing what we are writing about.
When we complete a whole class writing activity at the end of the session I have introduced the 'Author's Chair'. This is an opportunity for two children to come up to the front and read aloud their writing to the class. Before they begin reading they state their writing goal for that session and then begin reading. This has created some buzz during our writing sessions as many children want to share their writing and be proud of their hard work. Here are a couple of our star Author's from week 2.
Something you can do to help your child is to talk to them about their writing and what goals they might have. Stay tuned later this week for something you can print out and have on your fridge as a visual for your children's writing. Thank you all for all of your support. Your children are definitely reaping the benefits!
See you all tomorrow.
