Week 5 Information

Good evening parents,

We...are...half...way...through...the...term! How did that happen 😮

Just a few notices for this week...

Sight words

Thank you for all of your ongoing support with sight word practise at home. I have loved seeing the children be so eager to take their sight word test! The amazing Mrs. Hughes has worked so hard to make sure each child is tested almost every week, a truly outstanding feat to get through. To ease up her work load and to ensure the children get adequate time to practise their words, the children will be getting tested every fortnight if they pass up to the next set/next 15 words and if they do not pass, they will be tested that next week. This system will help the children gain more confidence in using their sight words in their daily writing.

Book week

A friendly reminder that it is book week dress up this Friday. We will have a Book Week themed assembly performed by our Year Four class followed by our Star Citizen Awards. There will be no offical parade, the children will simply stand up and present their costumes at the assembly, in their spot.

Targeting Mental Maths

We are currently up to unit 13 (due this Friday). Thank you so much for marking your children's work and giving them instant feedback on their work, as they complete it. Please let me know if your child experiences any difficulties by writing a small message next to the question. The children's maths confidence has definitely grown since starting the book last term!

Reading tests

Since week 2, each of the children have been tested in their reading. I have been so proud of their efforts and each of the children have grown in their reading abilities since last term. Mrs. Sorgiovanni and I have conferenced each week on the children's reading and we are lucky enough to be able to listen to almost every reading group twice a week. Each child has their own reading goal that is personalised to them and their ability to take on teacher feedback is very pleasing.

Procedures for news

Thank you to the parents who have helped their child prepare for their procedures last week. I have loved seeing the children's confidence in speaking in front of an audience blossom. We have had cooking procedures, video making procedures, planting procedures and quad bike riding procedures. Funnily enough, the 'unloading the dishwasher' and 'making your be' procedures have not made an appearance yet 😬

Keep an eye on the blog for some of our Science and Maths learning from the last couple of weeks!

Have a lovely day.
