Welcome to Week 7

Good afternoon parents,

What a lovely looooong weekend we had and the beautiful winter weather turned it on for us...only to be greeting with a hail storm for the start of Spring, who would have thought?!

Just a few messages for this week...

SPORTS CARNIVAL

Congratulations to Leeuwin on winning the Sports Carnival last week, a fine speech by our captains Zali and Axton.  The students again showed such great enthusiasm and sportsmanship on the day and gave it their all for every game or race they participated in! What a great way to finish week 6!

Thank you to all the parents who were able to make it down... It was incredible to see so many parents working hard on the BBQ's, at the coffee machine, in the cake stall and zipping down the track in the flag relay. We are so lucky to have such generous people who show such great commitment to the school, from all accounts a lot of money was raised!

Congratulations to our champion boy and girl Maddie and James C and runner up champion boy and girl Cooper and Coco!

MERIT AWARD WINNERS

Congratulations to Josie and Georgia who were the Week 7 Merit Award winners! You are both Year One Stars!

WEEK 7 REMINDERS

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

It's that time of year that we participate in the 'Operation Christmas Child' shoe box initiative that has been a wonderful OLC tradition for many years and reflects our school value of Compassion so well. These shoe boxes are sent to underprivileged children throughout the world as a gift for Christmas.

The children will be placed into in groups of four and between them, they will fill a shoe box with a variety of items. The items do not need to be expensive. Each child in the group will be asked to cover the cost of sending the shoe box to its final destination. We ask them to bring in $2.50 each. The children will be given time in the classroom to pack the shoe box and explore some of the places that their shoe boxes may be travelling to.

Please see the flyer below for further information:

Operation Christmas Child Gift Ideas | Samaritan's Purse Australia | New Zealand

In the table below, your child has been put into a group where they will need to bring a small item to place in a shoe box for either a boy or a girl aged 2-4 years old. The shoe box will include:

- Something to love
- Something to play with
- Something to draw with or write on
- Something for personal hygiene
- Something to wear

WHEELIE, WALKIE, WASTE-FREE WEDNESDAY 🚲🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️🌟

Our first day of WWWW was on today and Year 1P brought it home strong with 13 children walking or wheeling to school today despite the horrible weather! Well done to everyone that was able to provide amazing waste free lunches! I was very impressed with (and tempted to steal) some of the lunches! Thank you for being apart of this great initiative for the school where we can hopefully win an excursion!

Our Wheelie, Walkie, Waste -Free Wednesdays will commence again next Wednesday and continue for 2 more weeks:

Week 8 (9th September)
Week 9 (16th September)

MISSION MARKETS

On the last day of school (Thursday the 24th of September) the children will be participating in our annual feast day - The assumption of Mary. Each class is asked run a stall and this year we are making popcorn to sell. We are asking for each family from Year 1P to donate a bag of popping corn so we can sell some sweet and salty popcorn to raise money for Project Compassion. If you are free on that Thursday morning to help make and bag some popcorn, we would love and appreciate your help (from about 9.00 am - 9.45 am) while Mass is on. Please pop the popping corn in the box labelled Mission Markets out the front of our room.

UPCOMING EVENTS:
- School Photos - Thursday 10th & Friday 11th September
- Feast Day & Mission Markets - Thursday 24th September (Students last day of Term 3)
- Pupil Free Day (Staff PD) - Friday 25th September

WEEK 7 and 8 - HOMEWORK

Last week the beautiful Mrs. Hughes glued in all the homework ready for Week 7 and 8 while I was away sick. If your child did not bring in their homework book, they would have got the homework grid, new spelling list and fluency grid in a clear plastic sleeve to glue in at home. Homework is due next Friday the 11th of September, please let me know if you need another copy of anything.

Please continue with your reading every night and if you'd like to substitute school reading books, with home reading books, feel free to do so but please write in 'Read a home reading book' so Mrs. Hughes knows to give them a new book.

Phew....I think that is everything!

Thank you for your ongoing support.
